The video below shows various aspects of studio conventions used in the news. In here we talked about mode of address and studio news read or anchors. There is a compare and contrast elements in this video to show what is an good example and what is a bad example.
Interviewing and experts and witnesses
Generally when there is a neutral background which is suitable to the person's professional status. In addition there are graphics to introduce the interviewee and the questions are not heard during the interview.
There wouldn't be any dramatic camera techniques, there would be either a mid shot, a close up and the zooming in or zooming out. This is because any other shots would distract the audience and would diminish the seriousness.
Report structure
At the start of the show is the opening sequence (seen in the video) which is common for most news shows. Followed by the presenter introducing themselves and the major events. After that there the news looks at one story in detail. This maybe followed by with an interview. Usually there are graphics introducing the guests and depending of the situation there will be some images shown which are related to the topic. The would be a voice over accompanying this. This happens again but with a different story but they may not have images or interviews.
If there was links to on location reports, the reporter at the location would sign in and talk about the story. Perhaps the reporter may engage with the presenter at that the studio. Once the reporter has finished they would sign out and we would be returned to the presenter at the studio.
